A Street-legal go-cart is the most appropriate description that the 2009 Lotus Elise fits into. Fitting into, however, can be a two-fold problem. Sure, the 2009 Lotus Elise fits with plenty of breathing room into your garage. You can practically park it in a closet, but will you fit into the 2009 Lotus Elise? This car is TIGHT. Anyone over six feet tall will take the 2009 Lotus Elise with its roof in place as a serious challenge, but once situated in the cockpit, there is a real feeling of connectivity to the car. It's almost like wearing a suit. It's a bit uncomfortable at first, but once you begin to settle in a little, it just fits like a glove. The 2009 Lotus Elise comes in two trim packages, the Elise S version which is powered by a 189-horsepower four cylinder engine, and there is the SC version, which adds a supercharger and creates 218 horsepower, significant numbers for a car this small. The 2009 Lotus Elise is also the least expensive Lotus for 2009, offering plenty of zip for under $50K, considerably less than the Evora or Exige's price tags in excess of $70K.

Under the hood of the 2009 Lotus Elise is a choice of two engines, or rather one engine with or without a supercharger. The 2009 Lotus Elise has a base engine configuration of 1.8L in a dual overhead camshaft, inline-four cylinder layout creating 189 horsepower. The same engine in the 2009 Lotus Elise SC is supercharged with 218 horses, and sprints to sixty miles per hour in a stated 4.4 seconds. Fuel economy with both of the Lotus Elise engines is passable, with the unsupercharged engine returning 21city/27 highway per gallon, while the supercharged engine is not appreciably thirstier, returning 20city/26 highway fuel economy. While it's not too bad, one would almost expect a car of this size to return fuel economy numbers in the range of 26/32 or better, particularly given that the 2009 Lotus Elise is shifted by a 6-speed manual transmission, and no automatic option.

Packaged as is, the 2009 Lotus Elise will set you back $47,250 without the supercharged SC package. For the upper level model, the 2009 Lotus Elise SC carries a price tag of $54,990. Is the extra money worth it? It depends on your level of enthusiasm. You don't need it really, but if you've just gotta have it, than you'll find a way to afford it. The 2009 Lotus Elise is available in a wide variety of colors under three different types. Metallic paint will add $590 to the base price, while Lifestyle paint adds $1200. Limited paint adds $3,300 to the base price, and includes Candy red, Ice white, and Burnt Orange. The 2009 Lotus Elise Metallic colors include silver, red, blue, black, yellow, and titanium, and the Lifestyle paint includes such shades as White, orange, gray, green, blue, and black. All in all, the 2009 Lotus Elise is a slick, small car with just enough attitude to keep it interesting, but be careful your sixteen-year-old daughter doesn't fall in love with it. Get her an old Miata, and whatever you do, keep the 2009 Lotus Elise for yourself!

It's Stanley Cup Parade time in Pittsburgh, as the Pittsburgh Penguins overcame the odds and defeated the Detroit Red Wings to become 2009 Stanley Cup Champions. The Pittsburgh Penguins parade has been a long time coming for the franchise that suffered through some down times and financial crisis before the current roster was finally put together. Now fans are going to enjoy the first Pittsburgh Penguins parade since 1992, and it will undoubtedly be a great day of celebration for the city. The exact time of the Pittsburgh Penguins parade will be announced in the next couple of days by the team.

It seemed like the successful days for the Pittsburgh Penguins were behind them, but that was until Sidney Crosby came to town and changed the entire mind-set of the NHL. One of the highest regarded draft picks that the NHL had ever seen, he became the #1 choice in the 2005 Draft Lottery. In his first season he finished with 102 total points, and he followed that up with an NHL leading 120 points on offense during his second season. He won the Art Ross Trophy for his work, and put that on the mantle next to his Hart Memorial Trophy as the most valuable player in the NHL.

With a seven game series victory over the Detroit Red Wings, the Pittsburgh Penguins have won the third Stanley Cup trophy in the history of the franchise. Down 2 games to zero, and then down three games to two it seemed like this would be the year of the Red Wings. With game seven scheduled to be played in Detroit, the experts said that it was going to be a celebration in Motown, and surely another Detroit Red Wings parade through the downtown area. That is not quite how things would turn in game seven though, as the Penguins pulled out a nice 2-1 win to clinch the Stanley Cup title.

The Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup parade will definitely have a large turn-out, as fans have a reason to celebrate again in Pennsylvania. Details on the 2009 Stanley Cup Parade will be released to the media within the next couple of days, and it will then be a rush to get seats on the streets where the parade will be passing. It's an exciting time to be a Penguins fan, and the loyal fans of the Steel City.

Michael Vick Makes His Return

In a fitting coincidence, this championship came eight years to the day after the Yankees lost Game 7 of the 2001 World Series in Arizona on Luis Gonzalez's broken-bat single off Rivera.

New York spent billions trying to get back. At long last, it did.

Hey Babe and Yogi, Mr. October and Joltin' Joe – you've got company. Mark Teixeira, CC Sabathia and a new generation of Yankees have procured their place in pinstriped lore.

And for the four amigos, it was ring No. 5.

Jorge Posada, Jeter, Pettitte and Rivera came up together through the minors and were cornerstones for those four titles in five years starting in 1996.

Now, all on the other side of age 35, they have another success to celebrate. And surely they remember the familiar parade route, up Broadway through the Canyon of Heroes.

Indeed, a New York City-sized party is next. Nine years in the making, with all the glitz and glamour this tony town can offer.

For Steinbrenner, it was the seventh championship since he bought the team in 1973. The Yankees had talked about winning another for their 79-year-old owner, who has been in declining health.

Though he stayed back home in Tampa, Fla., he certainly wasn't forgotten. The grounds crew wore “Win it for The Boss” shirts last week, which were on sale outside the ballpark Wednesday.

New York wasted its chance to wrap things up in Game 5 at Philadelphia, then set its sights on clinching the World Series at home for the first time since 1999.

While nine years between titles is hardly a drought for most teams, it was almost an eternity in Yankeeland.

New York's eight seasons without a championship was the third-longest stretch for the Yankees since their first one, following gaps of 17 (1979-95) and 14 (1963-76).

Reggie Jackson's three homers in Game 6 against the Los Angeles Dodgers made the Yankees champs in '77. On this November night, Matsui delivered a sublime performance at the plate that must have made Mr. October proud.

Playing perhaps his final game with the Yankees, Matsui hit a two-run homer off Martinez in the second inning and a two-run single on an 0-2 pitch in the third.

A slumping Teixeira added an RBI single in the fifth off reliever Chad Durbin, and Matsui cracked a two-run double off the right-center fence against lefty J.A. Happ.

A designated hitter with balky knees, Matsui came off the bench in all three games at Philadelphia. Still, he had a huge Series, going 8 for 13 (.615) with three homers and eight RBIs. His go-ahead shot off an effective Martinez in Game 2 helped the Yankees tie it 1-all.

Bobby Richardson was the only other player with six RBIs in a World Series game, doing it for the Yankees in Game 3 against Pittsburgh in 1960. Richardson had a first-inning grand slam and a two-run single in the fourth.

Matsui's big hits built a comfortable cushion for a feisty Pettitte, who shouted at plate umpire Joe West while coming off the field in the fourth. Still, Pettitte extended major league records with his 18th postseason win and sixth to end a series.

The 37-year-old left-hander, pitching on three days' rest, became the first pitcher to start and win the clincher in all three postseason rounds. He beat Minnesota and the Los Angeles Angels in the AL playoffs.

Pettitte lasted 5 2-3 innings, allowing three runs, four hits and five walks. Joba Chamberlain and Damaso Marte combined for 1 2-3 innings of scoreless relief before Rivera secured the final five outs.

It had been nearly a half-century since players had won five titles with one team. The last to do it? Of course a bunch of Yankees: Yogi Berra (10 titles), Mickey Mantle (seven) and Whitey Ford (six) in 1962, according to STATS LLC.

For second-year manager Joe Girardi, a three-time Yankees champion as a player, it was the fulfillment of a mission. When he succeeded Joe Torre in October 2007, Girardi chose uniform No. 27, putting his quest on his back for all to see. His tenure didn't start out so well, with New York missing the playoffs in its final season at old Yankee Stadium following 13 consecutive appearances.

Steinbrenner's well-paid players hadn't soaked themselves in bubbly after the season since Bernie Williams gloved Mike Piazza's midnight flyout at Shea Stadium to win the 2000 Subway Series and cap the Yankees' third straight championship and fourth in five years.

Two outs from winning in 2001, the Yankees stumbled in the desert. New York then spent more than $1.6 billion after that trying to regain glory, falling short with infamous flops such as Kevin Brown, Javier Vazquez and Carl Pavano.

But last offseason the Yankees got smart, adding a trio of top free agents – Teixeira, Sabathia and A.J. Burnett – for $423.5 million. They jelled with Rodriguez, the game's highest-paid player but a winner for the first time in 16 major league seasons.

A-Rod became a newly minted champion following a sordid spring in which he admitted using steroids from 2001-03 with Texas and then needed hip surgery.

Maybe now, demanding fans in the Bronx will consider him a true Yankee.

NOTES: Howard set a World Series record with 13 strikeouts. … Derek Jeter batted .423 in the Series. … Teixeira had been 2 for 20 before his RBI single in the fifth. … It was the fourth time Rivera got the final out of a World Series. … Yankees LF Johnny Damon left after three innings with a strained right calf. … All-Star CF Shane Victorino was in Philadelphia's lineup despite an injured index finger. Victorino was hit on the right hand by A.J. Burnett's fastball early in Game 5 and removed in the eighth inning.

Michael Vick is finally back. After serving his last two months of his 23 months sentence for running a dog fighting operation, Michael Vick was still suspended for the first two games of the season. On top of that, he was having trouble finding a team to sign him. The fact that Michael Vick was still on the hot seat after his release had teams reluctant to sign, not only because of his lying to his former team, Atlanta Falcons, but also the protests, against any team or supporters of Michael Vick, led by animal lovers.

However, with support of Tony Dungy, former head coach Indianapolis Colts, Michael Vick was finally able to get back on track with his career. Dungy became somewhat of a mentor to Vick. He also, somehow, convinced Eagle's owner Jeff Laurie and head coach Andy Reid to consider adding Michael Vick to the Eagle's roster.

Michael Vick was eventually signed a one year contract with the Eagles with an opportunity for a second year. But with a starting quarterback on the roster, Donovan McNabb, and a backup, Kevin Kolb will Michael Vick ever get a chance to play?

A chance presents itself on September 13, 2009 when McNabb walks off the field with injured ribs. However Vick was still suspended for another game. Kevin Kolb is to start in the absence of McNabb.

Some blessing came Michael Vick's way for McNabb is still sitting out due to his injury. Kevin Kolb is to start again against the Kansas City Chiefs with Michael Vick making his return as Kolb's backup quarterback. This will be Michael Vick's first game since December 31, 2006 with the Atlanta Falcons.

Although Kolb was leading the offense, Michael Vick seem to get most of the attention. While coming on the field, he was welcomed with many enthusiastic responses. I, personally, was applauding for him that very moment. Kolb did great with neither McNabb nor Westbrook, who is also sitting out due to a sore ankle. Kolb threw for over 300 yards and even scored a touchdown after a one yard quarterback sneak. Michael Vick did not contribute much to the Eagle's 34- 14 win against the Kansas City Chiefs but he seems pretty content being able to put in a few plays.

Michael Vick was on the field for eleven plays. During his time on the field the Eagles moved forward for a total of thirty yards. In my opinion, after a few games, Michael Vick will get his groove back. Hopefully the Eagle's will give him the opportunity to get on the field for a few plays after McNabb recovers from his injury.

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt

On November 8, 1989 Infiniti first opened up for business. Since its inception, Infiniti's goal has been to establish a new concept of automotive luxury and today the brand is sold in 35 countries around the world.

Back in 1989, Infiniti had just two models and 51 retailers. Much has changed since then. Showrooms have expanded to make room for full range of luxury performance vehicles, including coupes, convertibles, sedans and SUVs. While Infiniti sales officially started in 1989 in the U.S., plans for Infiniti actually took root in 1985 with the creation of the top secret Horizon Task Force–a group formed within Nissan with a view toward creating a new performance luxury brand.

The Horizon Task Force singled out for closer study a handful of leading service companies outside of the automotive field, including Federal Express, Four Seasons Hotels and Nordstrom department stores. Ultimately, the Task Force's findings had a direct influence on everything from the design of the first Infiniti showrooms to the brand identity process all the way down to details such as the design of business cards and parts and accessories packaging.

From a product perspective, Infiniti launched in the U.S. with two models: the Q45 luxury sedan and the driver-oriented M30 coupe. Looking ahead, the ever-expanding product line will be joined by a second-generation Infiniti M sedan in spring 2010, followed by an all-new Infiniti QX SUV in summer 2010. Farther out, Infiniti recently announced its first-ever hybrid–the 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid and a future electric vehicle.

Plug-in hybrids have a host of drawbacks, most having to do with the limits of the battery packs on which they run. While the technology is catching up (and quickly,) it has unfortunately lagged over the last nine or so decades since electric cars were common. While its true that the technology of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt is nothing if not awe-inspiring, its roots begin waaaaayyyy back in the 1800s, when electric cars were more common than gasoline cars. Not true, you say? 'Fraid so, kiddies. Difference was, back then, most folks didn't have access to electricity, particularly outside city limits. As the population expanded, gasoline automobiles took over because they didn't need access to a power source except for a crank to create a spark. For 2011, however, the technology has come full-circle, creating a vehicle so far advanced above its gasoline counterparts, that the moment you see one humming down the road, take a moment to consider the “horse-and-cart” you've been driving around in all these years.

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is the next interpretation of the hybrid vehicle, one more step up the ladder. The 2011 Chevrolet Volt incorporates as much fuel-and energy-saving technologies as are commercially available today, including low-rolling resistance tires, regenerative braking, and even a special Bose-engineered sound system that reduces the amount of power needed to operate the stereo. The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is powered by a turbocharged 1.4L Dual overhead camshaft inline-four cylinder engine that itself is highly efficient and drives a generator to produce electric power for extended travel. The electric motor of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt produces a pleasing 160 horsepower, enough for highway travel in the 2011 Chevrolet Volt without the worry of a 40-mile range limit thanks to the gasoline engine and generator. The best fuel-saving feature of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt is the ability of the car to cruise on electric power, enabling the 2011 Chevrolet Volt to potentially realize fuel economy in the range of 230 miles per gallon, a magic number that engineers working on the 2011 Chevrolet Volt have set themselves to accomplish not just with the preproduction vehicles, but with off-the line 2011 Chevrolet Volt consumer-ready cars, as well.

Inside, the 2011 Chevrolet Volt has yet to see finalized interior treatment, but expect it to be roughly on par with the Chevrolet Malibu in terms of surface treatments and textures. With an expected price tag of $40,000, the 2011 Chevrolet Volt is going to have to justify its price tag beyond fuel economy numbers with an interior that's considerably better appointed than your standard run-of-the-mill fuel sipping commuter. The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is expected to begin production in December 2010, but due to all the ups and downs with the “new GM” right now, production could move back or forward literally without any notice at all. Expect to see a lot of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt, however, during the upcoming car show season, and a lot of excitement to follow it around.

The Oakland Raiders 2009 campaign starts on Monday Night Football against arch rival San Diego. This season looks to be a bit more challenging than last season. Provided the Raiders can get some consistency from their disconnected offense, the team could see some improvement this season. Oakland needs to win key match-ups in their division on this schedule.

Monday, Sept. 14: vs. Chargers (LOSS)
The energy from the history of playing under the lights on prime-time has faded. Its time to attempt to get it back – but against the Chargers, it will be highly unlikely.

Sunday, Sept. 20: at Chiefs (WIN)
The Raiders last won three straight in Kansas City between 1999 to 2001. If the Raiders have their heads on straight, it can happen again.

Sunday, Sept. 27: vs. Broncos (WIN)
Denver is heading into a tailspin fast. Oakland is already there and will use their hated rival as leverage to get out of the basement.

Sunday, Oct. 4: at Texans (LOSS)
For the fourth year in a row, a Raiders/Texans match-up. Oakland won't surprise here.

Sunday, Oct. 11: at Giants (LOSS)
These two teams are not even on the same level in terms of talent. Expect the G-Men to easily squash Oakland here.

Sunday, Oct. 18: vs. Eagles (LOSS)
Another embarrassing loss to an NFC East team. Two weeks in a row will easily damage the Raiders morale, and this isn't the hardest part of the schedule.

Sunday, Oct. 25: vs. Jets (WIN)
The Raiders defeated the Jets with Brett Favre at QB. They seem to have their number lately, and you can bet on it staying that way.

Sunday, Nov. 1: at Chargers (LOSS)
A must win against a division rival, which in typical fashion, the Raiders will lose due to defensive lapses.

Sunday, Nov. 8: BYE WEEK
A good time for a break. For once the bye comes during the middle of the season instead of week 4 or 5.

Sunday, Nov. 15: vs. Chiefs (WIN)
I'm banking on the Chiefs self destructing early in the season, so this game will finally give the well rested Raiders a confidence boost.

Sunday, Nov. 22: vs. Bengals (WIN)
If the rumors are true and Ocho Cinco makes his way to Oakland, expect the antics to elevate to epic proportions. He may just have the game of his life.

Thursday, Nov. 26: at Cowboys (LOSS)
The Raiders haven't played on Turkey Day since 1970. There's a reason why.

Sunday, Dec. 6: at Steelers (LOSS)
When the Steelers were defending champs in 2006, the Raiders took it to them. This Steelers team is different than that one. The Raiders will probably wish it was the 06 Steelers.

Sunday, Dec. 13: vs. Redskins (LOSS)
Welcome to the middle of the late season collapse, starring the Raiders. Don't expect any miracles or change in fortunes. Playoff runs are still too far beyond the grasp of this team.

Sunday, Dec. 20: at Broncos (LOSS)
The air is as thin as any hopes of Oakland having a .500 season. Broncos still win at home even without Shanahan.

Sunday, Dec. 27: at Browns (LOSS)
Rob Ryan's revenge. Although Cleveland may not have a lot left in the tank at this point.

Sunday, Jan. 3: vs. Ravens (LOSS)
The only way the Raiders will score any points against the Ravens is off a gifted defensive turnover of some sort. The offense could probably get a head start cleaning out their lockers since there's no chance in hell they should even bother taking to the field.

Final prediction, 5-11 on the season. Another year out of the playoffs and without a glimmer of hope for the future. As a part of Raider Nation, I'm being cautiously optimistic on the wins this year, but it could very well be a 2-3 win season if the team implodes again.

Here's to cautious optimism!

My kids love Singapore Noodles and the Chow Mein served at the Chinese restaurants and they pestered me to make them at home. I managed to learn the recipe from the culinary sites on the net and most of them mentioned that a thick bottom wok is a must for getting the real authentic Chinese taste. It seems that traditional Chinese and Asian recipes are directly cooked at high temperature and the perfect temperature plays a crucial role in bringing out the genuine taste. I was confused about the wok and finally settled with the Helen Chen's Flat Bottom Carbon Steel Wok Set.

I have heard about the famous Chinese Restaurateur Joyce Chen before but Helen Chen did not ring a bell. When I raised my doubt to the sales girl in the supermarket, she corrected me that Helen is the daughter of Chen. So I bought the Helen Chen's Wok expecting it to show superior performance. The Chen's have a reputation to keep and I was disappointed to see the fall in quality. This set consists of a 14 inch wok, dome shaped metallic lid and a 13 cinch long bamboo stick. The 14 inch Wok comes with a flat base making it stable. This sits safely on gas and does not even need a burner ring. Chinese cooking needs lot of vigorous shoveling, stirring, mixing and the perfectly flat smooth surface base never allow the wok to skid or slip from the gas top.

I also like the dome shape as it creates extra space and bamboo two tier steamers can be inserted inside the wok. It also facilitates to lock more moisture and this accelerates the rate of cooking. Another good feature is that the edges of the wok are slanting deep and this offers more heating surface. The carbon steel is one of the best thermal conductors and the wok gets heated up easily. What I like the most about this Wok is that it is not a non stick pan that is it does not come with chemical non stick coating material. So this can be used at extremely high temperature without fearing about peeling of Teflon coating. Seasoning is simple and all you have to do is to grease the pan adequately.

This is no doubt functionally competent but the problem with this wok is that it gets rusted soon. I have used it only thrice in the last couple of months and by far this works fine though I have to season it every time. The Helen Chen's Wok is made from 1.6 mm carbon steel and I guess it is because of the poor quality of the cast iron that it gets rusted soon. The first time I used, I left it soaked with water overnight for effortless cleaning but the next morning I was shocked to find the rust marks on it. However the rust was easy to remove and it was like a powder. To be on safer side I seasoned it again and stored in the cabinet. When I took it back after a week there were new rust spots near the handle and base. Again I had to season it. The only disgusting thing with the Helen Chen's Wok is that it has to be seasoned frequently.

How Does CDMA Cellular Signal Work?

7egend @ Nov 10th 2009 3:24PM

You have to figure, there are 6,796,184,307 people on Earth, the odds of someone thinking the same thing at the same time as you are fairly reasonable, someone coming up with the same idea as you in the same year is highly reasonable. Now one person decides this idea should be patented so they can make a profit from it, the other person decides, why patent it? Wouldn't it benefit everyone from being able to attain this technology and in the long run make things affordable for the consumer.

Take Apple in this case, sure they took some of Nokia's patents and used them, chances are they might have not known that they were patented since it was their first time ever making a phone. Now after the device has proved itself on the market, Nokia wants a piece of that action. But it was an idea someone decided to implement into the phone that was already thought up by one of the other 6 billion people on earth.

Same thing with Samsung and Sharp, sure Sharp is “entitled” to the patent claims, but are they really? I mean some of these ideas I come up with are just thoughts in my head then a few months later there is a working product across the world in China or Japan of the same exact thing I had thought of.

I say abolish the current patent system, re-structure so that the idea owner has a year to do what he needs to do to get the idea out in the open, and after that if he hasn't succeded in his business then other companies can use that same idea to benefit the consumer. A person could come up with a great new display design and go to someone like Samsung and sell them the tech, Samsung has a year to market it and manufacture it before anyone else can use it, and then it's far game to all the reverse engineers.

But ideas aren't strictly isolated to one individual, we all have ideas that some how materialize if we take action or not. Anyways…

The Government insists APD is a green measure intended to cover the
environmental cost of aviation, while critics say it is no more than a
stealth tax.

While the impact on families having a holiday in Europe will be modest – the
same cannot be said for those venturing further afield.

A family of four flying economy class to the farthest flung destinations will
have to find an extra £60 in tax, with their duty rising from £160 to £220.

In 12 months time this will reach £340.

A family flying to America will see their APD bill rise from £160 to £180 and
then, in a year's time, to £240.

Some popular destinations, especially in the Caribbean, will be especially
badly hit as a result of the new banding system which comes into force this
weekend.

Under the old arrangements APD was the same on all flights outside the EU. The
new system has introduced higher bands – one covering destinations between
4,001 and 6,000 miles and a top band for longer journeys.

But the tax band is calculated according to the distance from the UK to the
capital city of the destination, which means that all flights to the USA
find themselves in band B, because Washington DC is less than 4,000 miles
away.

But the West Indies, to the fury of Caribbean Governments, is in Band C –
which means holidaymakers are facing even larger increases.

What has particularly grated is that the tax on a flight to, for example
Barbados, will be higher than that levied on a flight to Los Angeles – even
though the Caribbean journey is considerably shorter.

In addition the Government has triggered further anger with higher taxes on
passengers travelling in premium economy cabins.

These cabins – which are popular with families as offering extra legroom for a
modest increase in fare – have been classified alongside first and business
class, which are reserved for the well-heeled or business executives whose
travel costs are usually picked up by their employer.

This will mean a family of four flying to Barbados will have to pay £400 in
tax as a result of the change.

Passenger groups made clear their anger at the way they have been used to
bolster public finances.

“While we accept the 'polluter pays' principle, we do not think it is
right that the money raised should just be swallowed up by the Treasury,”
said Simon Evans, chief executive of the Air Transport Users Council.

“It would be more acceptable if the money was ring-fenced for
environmental purposes.”

But environmental campaigners defended the rise. “Treasury figures show
that aviation is undertaxed by £10 billion, because it pays neither VAT nor
fuel tax,” said Stephen Joseph, executive director of the Campaign for
Better Transport.

“This APD rise goes some way to making up for this. For environmental and
economic reasons, the aviation industry needs to pay its fair share of tax.”

CDMA or Code Division Multiple Access signal is generally respected as one of the most efficient voice communication signals in existence. Cellular carriers in particular favor this type of signal because of the high number of simultaneous calls that CDMA is capable of handling using a very low amount of available space. Competitive services like GSM or Global System for Mobile Communications do not have the capacity to handle the same amount of simultaneous calls within the given amount of space. The space used to transmit data is commonly referred to as its “spectral footprint”. To illustrate why CDMA has such a low spectral foot print we need to understand how it works.

CDMA uses an encoding process known as Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum or DSSS. Spread spectrum imprints a unique address on the signal. This unique address is also called a bit identifier. The process of giving a unique address is only possible using digital transmissions. Bit identifiers are important because they allow receivers to ignore any data that is not intended for them. By not processing this type of useless information the network is allowed to concentrate on useful processing, and speeds up the transfer of information. DSSS imprints this signal by multiplying the original digital information by a higher frequency signal. This higher frequently signal is known as Pseudo Random Noise or a PN signal. This PN signal is pseudo random because the signal cycles unique bit identifiers randomly, but once all bit identifiers have been exhausted the cycle will repeat. The length of this cycle is called an Epoch. The Epoch determines how quickly the PN codes recycle. The minimum length of the Epoch must be longer than the round trip propagation delay. The round trip propagation delay is the sum of all pauses during the transmission, the processing, and the return of reply for any transmission made using the network. The PN signals use a series of 1's and 0's to determine the bit code, which is also called a chip. The frequency of the PN is sometimes referred to as a chipping frequency. When the digital packet is multiplied by the unique chipping frequency, the signal enters a process known as spreading. Spreading compresses the digital information carried in the signal prior to radio frequency modulation. The process of spreading requires the actual information to use more bandwidth, but compresses it so other transmissions can be stacked together. Bandwidth size of a spread signal is two times its bit rate. This can be estimated using the bit rate of the PN code and doubling it. Radio frequency modulation adds power to the signal so that it will transmit further distances. Exactly how much farther the transmission will go depends on how much power is put into the transmission. Network engineers need to be careful to stay within specific transmission guidelines handed down from the Federal Communications Commission. Too much power could also sacrifice the quality of the network by over modulating the signal. Over modulation causes the information to distort and become muffled. High gain processing allows interference rejection, and bandwidth allocation. The higher the PN bit rate, the better the performance, but the wider the bandwidth. Bandwidth is simply the amount of space available to transmit information. The form of radio frequency modulation used to transmit CDMA is Quadrature Phase Shift Keying or QPSK. QPSK uses 4 different states to encode each symbol. The bits are divided into I and Q channels that carry the data. A symbol is made by using a 2 digit binary code. Phase shifts typically occur at 45, 135, 225, and 315 degrees. A phase shift is a variance in the transmission wave representing the symbol data that has been encoded into the signal.

A spectral analyzer can be used to examine the signal visually. Through this device the spread spectrum looks like noise, but contains the same information as the original signal. These “noise” signals can be stacked on top of each other in the transmission. Compressing and stacking is how CDMA saves space during transmission. The smaller the transmission, the more simultaneous transmissions can occur at a given time. As long as the original information signal is still present, you can retrieve the information using a process known as despreading. Preparation for despreading requires demodulation of the signal. Demodulation is the exact opposite of RF modulation. Instead of adding power like RF modulation we remove power. This removal of power allows us to send the signal into a correlator. The correlator is responsible for encoding and decoding the signals used during transmission. The correlator generates it's own PN code. Using the pilot and sync channels from the base station the correlator obtains a lock on the proper PN code to use to decode the information. The PN code that the correlator uses must be exactly the same as the PN code from the base station or the signal will not decode. Despreading is done the exact same way as spreading. Using the original PN chipping rate and bit code sequence, the spread frequency is multiplied by the PN signal for a second time. Once the information is despread it is separated into the I and Q bits that originally carried the information, they are then forwarded on to the receiver which reassembles the original information based on the bits that it is given.

Any signal that is spread using a PN frequency must be decoded with an identical frequency or the frequency will be disregarded as noise. Transmissions from another spread spectrum transmitter decoded without the proper PN frequency still resembles high frequency noise and are filtered by the receiver. Non-spread narrow band transmissions in the same frequency that are received are effectively spread by the despreading process. These newly spread narrow band transmissions are disregarded in the same fashion as the signals decoded with the wrong PN chip code. In order for any CDMA network to function properly, the transmitters all need to be tuned to different PN frequencies.

The magic of Spread Spectrum really is revealed when the base stations all sync their frequencies to a master clock. Each transmitter starts their frequencies on a different bit. Two PN rates that were derived by a transmitter using a different bit rate are not identical, even if they give the same result, and will not decode with another transmitter unless the PN chip was derived starting from the same bit. This will also require your receiving handset to use the same PN chipping frequency derived from the same starting bit. The tower is responsible for relaying all required information to keep the handset on the proper PN frequency. This is achieved through the use of channels on the base station or tower.

Base stations transmit on a few channels to assist with different operations in the network. The pilot channel is a continuous transmission that has a unique time offset from the master clock. This time offset tells the mobile switching center where your handset is located based off of the pilot signal. The consumer version of this function is A-GPS which stands for Assisted Global Positioning Satellite. This GPS is said to be assisted because it works by measuring the response time from the handset in a given direction from the tower which is already a known constant location. The pilot channel controls power management and call hand-off functions. Call hand-off functionality allows the receiver to stop talking to one transmitter and start talking to another transmitter without loosing any information. Power management is very important because the number of simultaneous calls the system can handle is dependent on the power being managed properly. Both the device and the base station rely on the other to manage their power output. Devices that are close in proximity to the tower get turned down so they don't drown out other devices further away by increasing the noise ratio to intolerable levels. You can liken this to listening to someone talk on the other side of the room, but having a second person next to you yelling.

The sync channel is responsible for synchronizing the base stations PN with the mobile unit. The paging channel is used to page the mobile unit. The paging channel carries overhead, and subscriber specific information. This channel is used when the phone first turns on to help it register to the network properly.

The Upstream and Downstream channels are information channels that contain the voice call information, and are assisted by the access channel. The access channel responds to paging, creates call connections, and updates location information. The base station transmits the pilot, sync, paging, upstream, and downstream channels. The mobile receiver, in this case a cellular phone, is responsible for upstream, downstream, and the access channels.

CDMA digital service is dependent on DSSS technology to encrypt pieces of data that are ignored by everything except the intended receiver. The signal is decrypted in the cellular handset where it is processed. New information is given to the handset, encrypted and transmitted to the base station. Once at the base station the information is again decrypted and the process starts all over again.

The New Sony Ericsson Satio Camera Phone: An in Depth Product Review

nhl jerseys cheap,
jerseys

Key Features

So, the Sony Ericsson Satio camera phone. And what a camera phone it is. 12 megapixels. It seems like yesterday the first pioneering camera phones were being foisted on us, and I thought, what would you do with a 1.3 megapixel camera phone. The answer, of course, was take very tiny, blurrry pictures. Incessantly. Step forward a few years to the Sony Ericsson Satio, which is probably the best camera phone on the market today. What's more, the Sony Ericsson Satio runs Symbian Series 60. All looking pretty good so far, right?

There's always a downside. Well, nearly always. The Sony Ericsson Satio's most glaring omission is its lack of a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Alright, alright, so it's a camera phone, not a media player, but it still plays music and radio, and most serious consumers nowadays want to buy standard fit headphones from companies that know how to make headphones properly. The Sony Ericsson Satio's touchscreen is a little sluggish, too, and not the easiest camera phone to get text into either. But first let's focus on the good bits.

The Sony Ericsson Satio's whopping picture resolution means that, although the camera phone doesn't have an optical zoom, it's not really a problem – just digital zoom or crop and you still have a big picture file left over. There's the usual mass of photo functionality, too – including a smile detection feature – one up on the old face detection, this means that the Sony Ericsson Satio waits till everyone's smiling before it takes a picture. And of course, there's the old reliable Best Pic, which takes a number of pictures very quickly, giving you higher chance of creating your masterpiece.

Tag as you go

The Sony Ericsson Satio camera phone records the time and location of all the pictures you take – so when you plug it into Picasa or iPhoto you can plot them geographically. Uploads to Facebook, Picasa or Blogger are also very easy, plus you can, of course Bluetooth, MMS or email your photos from your camera phone. You can even plug your Sony Ericsson Satio into your TV, although the cable is sold separately.

Good media performance, occasional own goal

The Sony Ericsson Satio's 3.5″ screen uses 16:9 format – the same as on a widescreen TV – so movies look absolutely great. It's got an FM radio and an MP3 player, too – leaving you thinking, if Sony spent all this time making their new camera phone such a little bundle of multimedia joy, why on earth didn't they include a 3.5 mm headphone jack?

What's more, the on-board storage, at 128 MB, is hugely disappointing. You can extend to up to 8 GB with a micro SD card, but when Sony Ericsson Satio clearly takes a few cues from the Nokia N97, it's a shame they haven't followed Nokia's lead with generous storage.

All this combined with an old-fashioned resistive touch screen – which makes text input really rather tiresome – mean that the Sony Ericsson Satio is probably only the camera phone if the camera is way at the top of thhe list of the features you're looking for.

DIY – Install a Stainless Steel Back Splash

discount nhl jerseys,
nhl jersey

Kitchen back splash material comes in lots of fun kinds of metal ideas; stainless steel, copper, and brass are among the popular back splash materials easily available today. While shopping for ideas in back splash materials that would look nice in your kitchen, please keep in mind that backsplash can be spelled as one word or two for searches.

How to install a metal kitchen backsplash:

To start your DIY stainless steel (or other metal) back splash project, get out a roll of cheap shelf paper. Cover your wall with this cheap shelf paper in the exact measurements that you would like your kitchen back splash to be in.

Trim your back splash paper edges with scissors or a razor blade until you have an exact paper replica of what you would like your stainless steel kitchen back splash to look like. Stand back and decide if you will like the look of a new stainless steel back splash in your kitchen. If you do not — stop. This project does not look nice in all kitchens

Carefully remove the paper back splash from your kitchen wall and save this paper to use as a pattern to have your stainless steel back splash material cut from. Not all walls are even; if the paper back splash pattern is not exactly straight after looking nice on your wall, don't worry about it. If the paper looked nice, your metal back splash will also look nice. Make sure that your pattern has holes cut neatly where any light switches will go.

If you have a store near you that sells sheet metal, you can go buy your stainless steel back splash material there and cut it yourself. Ask the sales girl to explain which thicknesses are easiest for you to cut with a tool that looks like overgrown scissors, called a pair of metal sheers.

Lay your paper pattern down on top of your stainless steel or other sheet metal and cut out your pattern. Use goggles and a strong sander to lightly buff the edges so that they are not razor blade sharp from the backside of you back splash.

DIY Idea: If you are making a copper back splash, you can use leather working stamps or a ball-ping hammer to tap in a nice raised decorative pattern if you would like.

Your stainless steel metal back splash is glued to the wall with either silicone caulk or a product called Liquid Nails that fits into your caulk gun. Draw a thin like of caulk slightly in from your stainless steel back splash edges and squiggle the rest of the caulk around in the center of your stainless steel until there is enough to hold it to the wall.

Put your stainless steel back splash onto the wall pressing from the bottom towards the top; excess caulk may come out of the top as you press, remove that with a damp wad of paper towels. Once the stainless steel back splash is in position on your wall, use Gorilla brand extra-sticky tape to hold the unit in place for 24-48 hours while the caulk dries.

DIY Idea: Some people like to caulk the edges of their stainless steel back splash. Use tape to make straight lines, or transfer caulk into a disposable cookie decorating tool icing bag and squirt onto your stainless steel back splash edges with the tiny cookie tip included in the disposable set. The cookie set is generally cheaper than buying tape rolls.

DIY Idea: Some people prefer a pretty decorative metal trim around the edges of their new stainless steel back splash. A company online called VanDykes Restorers carries decorative metal trim strips for restoring old trunks. These come in many styles, glue up the same way as the back splash did, and look very nice as trim on a back splash.

DIY Idea: While exploring choices in metal back splash material, don't forget to look at raised pattern ceiling metal designer-styles choices. Raised pattern stainless steel back splashes will not show the dirt as quickly as a shiny flat piece of metal will. They are harder to clean, but for some lifestyles hiding the dirt is nicer than constant cleaning.
